1. It’s my mother’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you!
2. “Gone Girl” — You won’t be able to put it down. I devoured this book’s 415 pages in less than a week. Complete with dysfunctional yet realistic characters and a plot akin to the in-the-dark twists and drops of Disney’s Space Mountain roller coaster, “Gone Girl” is a thriller that will keep you up at night.
3. “The Dark Knight Rises” — Aside from the unconscionable tragedy linked to this movie’s premiere, the final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy is fantastic. The character work is solid, the fight scenes are realistic enough you want to turn away, and the film concludes with an ending that ties up all loose ends like a Martha Stewart wrapped Christmas gifts: perfection that no one else could possibly achieve.
4. My new car! It’s been exactly one week since I traded in my C230 Mercedes Kompressor and leased a brand new Jetta SE. Saying good-bye to my old car was much, much harder than I expected. (More on that later.)
